Care of the new born 0-12 weeks
Life with a new-born can be magical and also overwhelming. Bonding, skin to skin and building a positive relationship with your baby encourages brain stimulation.
It can take some time to develop confidence in caring for your baby. As your confidence grows, you will become more relaxed in your role as a parent, and this will help in developing a bond between you and your baby. Closeness and comfort are so important for your baby’s development helping your baby feel safe and secure.
I offer advice and demonstrate to you on how to protect and support baby’s head, recognising baby’s cues, knowing when they are hungry, have wind, need changing, are tired, feeding advice, washing, and bathing your baby from top to toe, bath water temperature and caring for your baby’s skin.
Baby massage from 4 weeks
Baby Massage is a wonderful bonding experience for all parents and guardians. It is also a parenting skill that enriches family interaction. Baby massage develops a child's confidence in touch and allows the child to explore and experience their surroundings which is essential for child development and confidence. Closeness and comfort are so important for your baby to feel safe and secure.
Baby massage will help your baby sleep longer, ease colic, improve baby’s health and wellbeing, help build strong bones, stimulate brain development, promotes bonding for you and your baby and relieves constipation. I will demonstrate baby massage techniques.
Tummy Time from 4 weeks
Tummy time is so important for a child to learn so many different skills, and also for their development.
When your baby is having tummy time, they are stimulating their brains, preventing a flat head, strengthening neck muscles for good head control, strengthening core back muscles, promote visual skills, hand and eye coordination, hands and arms strengthen shoulders for reaching and fine motor skills, legs and hips strengthens and stretches muscles for crawling and the tummy strengthens core muscles which can help relieve constipation, wind, and reflux. Who knew all this was happening at tummy time! I will safely show you how to implement tummy time to help grow your confidence
Stimulation and developmental play from birth
To grow and develop, babies need stimulation and encouragement to learn how to play, independently and interact with others.
I offer advice and demonstrate on how to interact with your child, age-appropriate toys, introducing messy play, following your child’s lead, using house hold objects for play and introducing tidy up time.
Weaning advice 4-6 months
Weaning can be a confusing time, knowing when to introduce solid foods to your baby. There are a number of things to consider before you start. I offer advice on signs of weaning, how and what first foods to introduce, different textures, finger foods, and what foods to avoid.
I will also explain the difference between choking and gagging and safety at mealtimes.
Toilet training Programme from 9 months or when your child is able to sit up unaided
Using the toilet is an important skill to help your child gain independence. It also has a great impact on the purse strings.
I offer advice, support and can devise a toileting programme on what to look out for when thinking of toilet training your child, such as signs of readiness, appropriate environment, how to implement the potty or toilet, develop a routine, introduce hygiene by washing hands, learn how to undress and dress around the potty or toilet, and of course positive praise. ERIC (The Children’s Bowl and Bladder Charity) certified.
Sleep Hygiene Programme
Healthy sleep for you and your baby from birth is very important for your child’s health and development, and also for parents to rest and re-energise.
I offer advice, support, and devise an individual sleep hygiene programme around your child’s sleep patterns, from waking at night and learning the skill and importance of falling asleep independently (self-soothing). The Sleep Charity certified.
